Remember's Birthday

Yes, Remember’s birthday is December 25. But no, I haven’t gotten around to posting about it until this evening. And I feel awful right now, because just five minutes ago I accidentally deleted half of her party pictures. I AM SO MAD! I actually had it together enough to give my daughter a decent first birthday party, and I took pictures. But I deleted the pictures. If my husband were here right now, he’d be making some remark about my hair color.

My only solace is that my brother-in-law, Ridge, took some wonderful pictures of the event. Unfortunately he didn’t get off work until the party was halfway over, so the beautiful table had already been demolished and the darling cupcakes consumed. But, he got lots of great pictures of my beautiful girl, and that’s what really matters.

This was back when she only had four teeth; now she has about ten. Neither was she walking at this time. She took her first steps on December 27, 2008. Now walking is her preferred method of getting from one place to another.

Singing "Happy Birthday," and "The Lord Bless You and Keep You." The latter is a Mallery family tradition. By the way, I'm not giving a solo. You just can't see the 30-some-odd other people who were also singing.

She didn't quite get the candle thing. These are the only pictures I have of those darling cupcakes! In these pictures you can also see the special birthday plate I found for her. It has forget-me-nots hand-painted on it...perfect for a little girl named Remember. :)

She definitely got the cupcake thing! This is a Rickel family tradition...stripping the birthday boy/girl down to their skivvies and letting them enjoy - however they want to - their very own cake (this is only a first birthday tradition - just in case anyone was wondering). When we celebrated Honour's first birthday, he was very hesitant about diving into his cake. He kept looking at me like he was asking, "Is this really okay?" But Remember took me at my word and quickly and completely devoured her cupcake.

Since Remember was born on Christmas Day, we’ve decided we’ll celebrate her birthdays a few weeks early. This year, her party was on December 4. The Jay Rickel and Ray Mallery families, and Grandpa Schmid were with us, as well as my uncles, James and Jeff Rickel (pictured above), who were visiting from California. What a special treat!
